Last night, some guy came sliding into my neighborhood in his car. On the corner of the street is a house. We never really talked to them before, but yeah. The owners' daughter and her husband came over from California to spend some family time with her parents. They brought their baby boy because the grandparents (owners) hadn't seen him since he was 6 months old.
So the dad was outside of the house playing with the kid when the bastard slid through the turn in his car. I'm not going to cover up any details, so if you don't think you want to read this, then don't. The car slid into the little boy and crushed him between his car and the parked car in the driveway. The guy knew that he hit someone. Guess what he did. He drove the hell away as fast as he could.
Where are people's morals?
While this happened, my sister and mom were outside in our backyard. Our house is about one house away from where this happened, so the screeching tires alarmed them. They ran through the house and told me to dial 911 as we heard screams from across the road. I ran outside with the house phone, trying to ask my sister why. She was already sprinting down the road to the scene. I called 911 and was lucky enough to have the DUMBEST operator possible.
Operator: "911 emergency response.
Fire or ambulance?"
Me: "My sister told me to call 911 immediately. I think there's been a car crash."
Op: "Fire or ambulance?"
Me: "I DON'T KNOW! Just send someone out here!"
Op: "What's your name?"
Me: "Ryan McCullough."
Op: "And where is the accident?"
Me: "At the intersection of Twin Palms and Picciola. It's the entrance to King's Cove.
"
Op: "Okay, just hold on a second.
"
*about 30 seconds of clicking on a keyboard*
Me: "Look, there's people screaming, just send someone immediately.
"
Op: "Did you actually see the incident?"
Me: "No, but-"
Op: "Why don't you go run down the road and check, and then call me back, okay?"
Me: "You stupid bitch, just send an ambulance or something!"
*click*
Then, I just ran. I was barefooted, too. I showed up at the scene and the mom was crying her eyes out. After further inspecting the scene, I saw my dad holding up the obviously dead head of a 3-year-old boy. He was assisting the father in CPR. The father was holding in the kid's innards with one hand, and doing the CPR with the other. My sister was taking care of the mother, trying to comfort her, my dad was helping the dad stay busy so he wouldn't freak out, and my mom was just watching the scene in horror. I did the only thing I thought I could do at this point. I tried to block the road. The neighborhood has one way in and out. I got the description of the car, and I was going to make sure the bastard wasn't getting away. I checked every car that left the neighborhood. I almost bashed in some dude's hood because he was trying to go around me. At that point, adrenaline was pumping, and I didn't really care what someone would do if I pulled them out of the car.
It wasn't too long after this that all the cops, firemen, and paramedics showed up. One of the paramedics checked out the bloody corpse of the boy and was about to announce that there was no chance for him, but my dad stared and her and shook his head slightly, as to hint not to, to keep the dad's hopes up. They loaded up the kid and the parents and were off to the hospital. The cops stuck around, looking for the suspect. Later on at night, some neighbors saw the guy ditch his car and run, so they called the cops, and the guy got arrested.
3-years-old...That's way too young. An innocent child died because some dude thought it would be cool to take the corner really fast. Whatever happens to him in prison is too good for him. It's just hard, because everytime I close my eyes, or see a toddler, I think of the lifeless, bloody body laying in that yard.
I've got it way too good...
